Drew Barrymore broke down in tears over raising children in the public eye when they “didn’t sign up for” the spotlight.
The actress admitted to Pamela Anderson that she’s having a “hard” time in an emotional episode of her eponymous talk show, giving the paparazzi a warning.
“Don’t f–k with my kids. This is not OK,” the 47-year-old, who is the mother of Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, said during Tuesday’s interview.
After getting upset over the new social media “layer” of parenting, Barrymore asked the “Baywatch” alum how she managed to raise her “incredible” sons, Brandon and Dylan.
Anderson, 55, encouraged the crying talk show host, gushing, “You’re gonna get through this. You’ve got it.”
The former Playboy model advised Barrymore “to be careful with social media” and “make sure that [her daughters] know how to make themselves safe from [a] very young” age.
The “Barb Wire” star also reflected on a particular time in her sons’ lives when she “hired somebody to be an assistant P.E. teacher” so a security guard would be at their school.
“People wanted to take them off the school yard,” Anderson recalled. “I had to find clever ways to make them feel everything was normal [even though] I needed to know eyes were on them. I was not gonna take that chance.”
The “Dancing With the Stars” alum shares her boys with Tommy Lee, whom she divorced divorced in 1998.
As for Barrymore, the Golden Globe winner welcomed her little ones with ex-husband Will Kopelman before their 2016 split.
She and Anderson bonded over their difficulties “get[ting] past” the men they have children with.
“That’s hard, isn’t it?” Anderson asked. “It’s just that connection you don’t have with anybody else.”
While the “Pamela, A Love Story” star feels “fine” being alone and had the “happiest year of [her] life” single, Barrymore revealed in December 2022 that she is back in the dating game.
Her ex, for his part, moved on with Alexandra Michler in 2021. The Vogue director of fashion development is now pregnant with her and Kopleman’s first baby together.
