Kate Middleton is a green queen.
The Princess of Wales, 40, wowed royal watchers in a bright green gown and one of Princess Diana’s iconic pieces of jewelry as she arrived with Prince William at the 2022 Earthshot Prize ceremony in Boston tonight.
Wearing a long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder Solace London “Sabina” dress ($525) borrowed from rental platform Hurr, the royal matched the event’s green carpet as she and her husband arrived to cheers from a huge crowd of fans gathered outside the MGM Music Hall.
The royal wore her hair down with soft waves, and added dazzling drop earrings and a familiar piece of royal jewelry: the emerald-and-diamond choker necklace that Princess Diana often sported (and even wore as a headband once in 1985).
Queen Mary’s sparkling emerald choker necklace hasn’t been seen since Middleton’s late mother-in-law’s days, and the piece was created “by redesigning an emerald and diamond necklace that was presented to Mary during the Delhi Durbar in 1911,” per The Court Jeweller.
Along with wearing one of Princess Diana’s famous necklaces, the royal seemed to channel her mother-in-law’s style, too — her outfit is reminiscent of a bright green gown Diana wore along with the sparkling choker during a Malaysian state visit in 1993.
The Princess of Wales added sparkling gold heels to her bright look, which brought back memories of Queen Elizabeth’s “green screen” coat from Trooping the Colour in 2016.
“It’s very brave of the Princess of Wales to attend an event wearing a greenscreen,” Charlie Proctor, editor-in-chief of Royal Central, tweeted along with doctored photos of Queen Elizabeth. “I guarantee people will have a lot of fun!
While the Prince of Wales, 40, didn’t go with green, he looked dapper in a velvet tuxedo jacket and black trousers for his annual environmental prize ceremony.
For the inaugural Earthshot Awards in 2021, Middleton sported a 10-year-old Alexander McQueen gown that she originally wore to a BAFTA event in Los Angeles shortly after her and William’s 2011 wedding.
While her outfit this year wasn’t quite as old, the princess stuck to the sustainable dress code by renting for the event, which was attended by star-studded guests such as David Beckham, Billie Eilish, Chloe x Halle, Rami Malek and Annie Lennox.
The environmental prize, created by the Prince of Wales, came to Boston this year, with £1 million ($1.2 million) awarded to environmental changemakers in the categories of clean air, climate change, nature protection, ocean revival and waste elimination.
Tonight’s glamorous gala also marks the end of the Waleses’ visit to Boston — during which the Princess of Wales rocked everything from vintage Chanel to watch a Celtics game to a burgundy Roland Mouret suit that matched William’s sweater.
While the Waleses’ trip to America has come to an end, royal fans should expect some festive fashion ahead as the princess kicks off the holiday season with a carol concert at Westminster Abbey on December 15.
